- <p> LICENSE SUSPENDED. DR. ROBERT ATKINS, 62, diet-book author;
- in New York. Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution (1972) made Atkins
- a fortune promoting a diet featuring high-fat foods like bacon
- and butter. Now his yen for unlikely cures may finish his career.
- He advocates the use of ozone gas to treat cancer and AIDS,
- but last September when a patient in his office who was injecting
- herself with ozone complained of headaches and weakness, Atkins
- allegedly waited hours before sending her to a hospital, leading
- the New York health commissioner to call Atkins' medical practice
- "an imminent danger to the health of the people of this state."
- Facing a hearing, the diet guru says he is being harassed for
- his belief in alternative medicine.
